The Make-A-Wish Foundation is an International non-profit organization with 36 offices worldwide dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions enriching the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a seven year old boy named Chris Greicius, who was being treated for leukemia, realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organisation has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is the nation’s largest wish-granting organization, reaching more than 300,000 children around the world.
In October 2003 the first Make-A-Wish Office in the Gulf Region was established in the International Humanitarian City, UAE.
The patron and Chairperson is H.H Sheikha Sheikha Bint Saif Al Nahyan, wife of H.H Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahayan.
Currently, there are an estimated 1,800 children (age 3-18 years) living with a life-threatening medical condition in the UAE, the majority of whom are diagnosed with either Thalassemia Major or Cancer. The Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE serves both local and expatriate children across the Emirates. Thus far, over 500 wishes have been fulfilled; the aim for 2013 is to grant over 500 wishes.
